Il Kaspar di Peter Handke riprende la riflessione austriaca sulla crisi del linguaggio di cui è espressione emblematica Der Brief des Lord Chandos di Hugo von Hofmannsthal, mostrandone però il rovescio della medaglia: per Handke la crisi del linguaggio non è tanto un riflesso della crisi dell’io, quanto una sua causa determinante. Il presente contributo intende mettere in luce lo stretto rapporto tra la pièce handkiana, che si apre autodefinendosi un esempio di “tortura linguistica”, e lo sviluppo del teatro postdrammatico di lingua tedesca.Peter Handke’s Kaspar continues the Austrian reflection on the crisis of language, which finds an emblematic expression in Hugo von Hofmannsthal’s Der Brief des Lord Chandos, but from a new point of view: The crisis of language is presented not so much as a mere consequence, but as a main cause of the crisis of the individual. The article aims at highlighting the strong connection between Kaspar – defined by Handke as an example of “linguistic torture” – and the development of the postdramatic German speaking theatre
